Comprehensive Vision Examinations

Starting with a thorough medical and visual history of our patient and their family members, Dr. Peek is very particular in his examinations. He often double-checks and demonstrates his findings during the course of the exam. It is quite common for patients to say that they have never experienced such a detailed eye exam. The examination consists of visual acuities, refraction, tests for binocularity (two-eye coordination), eye movement control, focusing skills, as well as external and internal eye health. Glaucoma and cataract evaluation is included. If you are a new patient, expect a dilation of your eyes as Dr. Peek is better able to evalutate your eye health with enlarged pupils. For young children (Dr. Peek recommends a first eye exam between three to five years of age, or earlier if there are any suspicious observations) the examination will be fun and enjoyable. Cartoons are often a hit with the younger children, and parents are encouraged to stay and watch, or even participate, in the examination. A final discussion of his findings and recommendations conclude the exam. You will be given a pamphlet summarizing your vision status and an eyeglass prescription is offered at your request. Our recall system will keep you informed as to when your next appointment is needed.

Contact Lenses

Dr. Peek has been wearing contacts since his early teens, and still enjoys the benefits of these amazingly small alternatives to eyeglasses. Most of the newer contacts on the market have already been personally tried by Dr. Peek, which enables him to better communicate and empathize with his patients. Whether it be one of the several types of soft contacts (one-day disposables, standard disposables, planned-replacements, astigmatism/torics, bifocals, or colored) or rigid gas-permeable contacts of various designs and materials, Dr. Peek has a lot of experience to enable you to enjoy contacts. For those that wear rigid contacts, we also offer in-office polishing and modifications. And another benefit we offer is being able to order contacts online if your prescription is current.

Medical Eye Exams & Treatment

We at Raleigh Hills Vision Clinic consider vision to be the most precious sense a person has. It can influence one's lifestyle dramatically. That's why we take eye health very seriously. Although we recommend and practice a preventative approach, when the unexpected happens, Dr. Peek is ready to intervene immediately. He is able to treat and manage several types of eye conditions, including glaucoma, eye trauma, and eye infections or allergies. A conservative approach is most often used, meaning that a strong medication will not be prescribed unless it is needed. Some eye problems need aggressive treatment, and this is when his medical training and background are utilized. Occasionally, conditions are not best treated by Dr. Peek, so he makes the appropriate referral to your primary care physician or other specialists. We always follow up with our patients to assure the situation is stable. Dilated eye exams for those with diabetes would also be an example of medical eye exams performed regularly at Dr. Peek's office.

Co-Management of Eye Surgery

Dr. Peek has been offering pre-operative and post-operative care for many years. He is most actively involved in Laser Vision Correction surgeries, and has established professional relations with some of the best surgeons in our area. His sincere concern for our patients' outcome keeps him busy with reports and dialog with eye surgeon specialists. Cataract, glaucoma, and strabismic surgeries are also included as co-management services offered at Raleigh Hills Vision Clinic. Sometimes surgery itself is not needed, and so he will co-manage and monitor these conditions to other doctors for systemic and eye manifestations.

Frame Styling and Filling Eyewear prescriptions

Our dispensing area has the latest styles of eyewear. Whether you are looking for a primary frame, a second pair, computer glasses, sunglasses, sports eyewear or safety glasses, we can answer all your questions and help you in choosing the appropriate lenses and frame. We carry many of the high-quality and designer frames, all of which are fully warranted. You will feel wonderful when wearing these lightweight and attractive frames. If you are looking for non-prescription sunglasses, over-the-counter readers, or eyeglass accessories, we carry a selection worth checking out. And remember that we can fill your prescription if you received your examination elsewhere.

Vision Therapy

Some individuals cannot be completely helped with lenses or surgery alone. Vision is extremely complex, and there may be deficiencies in some of the visual skills. These may contribute to eye fatigue, headaches, blurred or even double vision, and poor reading comprehension. Vision therapy is a specifically prescribed curriculum of activities to enhance weaknesses in one's vision. We offer both at-home and in-office therapy depending on the patient's needs.

Emergency Eye Care

This is often tied into medical eye exams. Dr. Peek or his back-up colleagues are available for sight-threatening situations 24 hours a day. Remember that our main concern is the health of our patients' eyes, and it is always best to have Dr. Peek evaluate or consult with you if you believe something is not quite right. And don't worry about whether or not your primary care physician has or has not authorized your visit. We are able to see you and your insurance will participate in the coverage if it is truly an eye emergency. During regular office hours, we will manage to see you the day you call if necessary. If you need to reach us outside our normal hours, call 503-635-7975 or our emergency answering service at 503-721-4385, or Dr. Peek's pager at 503-973-8679.

Insurance Assistance

Dr. Peek is a preferred provider for many vision (and medical) care insurance plans. Our office staff will be happy to work with you and your insurance company to maximize your benefits and make it work as easily as possible. If you want us to find out more about your benefits and coverage, just give us a call at 503-297-1096.
